Telcos Respond to Economic Boom: As MTN, TELECEL and AT increase data bundle for Less

In a significant move to enhance data affordability and access in Ghana, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has unveiled plans for data bundle increment across major telecommunication networks effective July 1, 2025.
During a press briefing on Tuesday, June 10, the Minister underscored the government’s dedication to easing digital pricing burdens by boosting data value for consumers nationwide.
Noteworthy changes include AirtelTigo Ghana (AT Ghana) and Telecel Ghana, which will both witness a 10% surge in data bundle allocations. For instance, AT Ghana’s GH₵400 bundle will surge from 195GB to 236GB, while the same priced bundle for Telecel Ghana will climb from 90GB to 250GB.
On the other hand, MTN Ghana, a prominent player in the sector, is set to elevate data bundle offerings by 15%. The GH₵399 bundle, which was previously priced at GH₵350 for 92.88GB, will now provide 214GB.
Minister George acknowledged the financial implications for the networks but expressed gratitude for their cooperation, emphasizing the commitment to Ghanaian consumers. July 1 has been designated as the implementation date to allow for necessary adjustments and system configurations.
Additionally, the Minister addressed concerns about data pricing integrity, referencing the National Communications Authority’s verification system ensuring accurate billing and data bundle integrity.
Despite these developments, the Minister condemned Telecel Ghana’s recent fixed broadband price increase, labeling it as unwarranted. Measures are being taken to engage with the company and regulators to resolve the issue promptly.
Furthermore, Minister George warned that non-compliant network providers regarding fixed data service pricing structures will face penalties to sustain fair and affordable broadband services for all Ghanaians.
