Telecel Group has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations to support the government’s flagship One Million Coders Programme, a national digital-skills initiative launched by President John Mahama in April 2025.
The agreement, signed at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra, cements Telecel’s commitment to providing free access to its Startocode platform to train 100,000 young Ghanaians over the next four years. Officials say the move will significantly boost Ghana’s digital transformation efforts while opening new avenues for youth employment in the global technology economy.
At the signing ceremony, Telecel Group CEO Moh Damush described the partnership as a bold investment in Africa’s digital future. “Aligning with the One Million Coders initiative allows us to equip tens of thousands of young people with vital digital skills,” he said. “This is about empowering Ghana to lead the future of the digital ecosystem already reshaping Africa.”
Startocode, Telecel’s flagship learning tool, is a multilingual, self-paced platform that delivers interactive coding lessons, hands-on projects and practical training in digital literacy. The platform has trained thousands across Africa, with features designed to reach learners in underserved communities.
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Sam George, welcomed the collaboration, calling it a significant step toward bridging Ghana’s digital divide. “The One Million Coders Programme is about unlocking potential and creating sustainable career paths for our youth,” he said. “Partners like Telecel ensure this vision becomes reality.”
Through the MoU, participants will gain access to training in web development, Python programming, data analytics and digital entrepreneurship. The partnership will also reinforce mentorship networks and community-learning initiatives to support long-term career development.
Officials say the collaboration aligns with Telecel Group’s broader social-impact agenda, which prioritizes digital inclusion, health development and environmental sustainability across its African markets.
The agreement marks a major milestone in Ghana’s journey toward a future-ready digital economy and underscores both parties’ commitment to ensuring every young Ghanaian has access to life-changing digital skills.
