The Tema Regional Police Command says it has intercepted a truck loaded with more than 3,000 slabs of suspected narcotic substances and arrested two men for allegedly attempting to bribe officers during investigations.
According to a police statement issued on 18 February 2026, the interception followed an intelligence-led operation carried out shortly after midnight on 15 February by officers from the Regional Patrols Unit. The team stopped a Sinotruck tipper vehicle at Sege Akpla Manya in the Greater Accra Region.

Police said the truck, bearing registration number GN 993-14, was loaded with fertiliser sacks containing 3,009 slabs of plant material suspected to be cannabis. The driver reportedly fled the scene on seeing officers, abandoning both vehicle and cargo. Authorities have since impounded the truck at the regional headquarters in Tema while investigations continue to identify and apprehend the driver and confirm ownership of the vehicle.
In a related development, police arrested Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35, on 16 February at about 7:10 p.m. for allegedly offering officers 150,000 Ghana cedis in cash. Investigators said the suspects attempted to influence personnel at the Regional CID Office to release the impounded truck and its contents. The money has been retrieved and kept as evidence.

Both suspects remain in custody assisting with inquiries and are scheduled to appear before court on 18 February, police said.
Head of Public Affairs for the command, ASP Dede Dzakpasu, reaffirmed the unit’s commitment to tackling narcotics trafficking and upholding professional standards. She said officers would continue to pursue all individuals connected to the case and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Authorities urged the public to support law enforcement efforts by sharing credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.
