Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has reiterated government’s commitment to deepening engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora to promote year-round tourism and reduce reliance on seasonal travel peaks.
She made the remarks during a courtesy call by members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, who are in Ghana to mark the organisation’s 118th Founder’s Day celebrations. The visit formed part of broader discussions on strengthening diaspora participation in Ghana’s tourism, cultural and creative arts sectors.
Gomashie stressed the importance of sustained collaboration with diaspora groups, describing them as critical partners in expanding Ghana’s global tourism appeal. She assured the delegation that proposed programmes and activities would be reviewed for possible support and participation by the Ministry and its agencies. Further engagements, she said, are planned to deepen stakeholder involvement and create long-term impact.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Diallo Sumbry of The Adinkra Group said about 500 members of the sorority are currently in Ghana, highlighting the diaspora’s strong capacity to mobilise in support of tourism and cultural initiatives. He noted that culturally significant periods throughout the year offer opportunities to market Ghana as a destination beyond the traditional December peak.
Both sides expressed optimism that strengthened partnerships with diaspora organisations would help boost tourism, cultural exchange and creative industry development throughout the year.
