Six of the victims were rescued

An all female Nigerian trafficking human syndicate has been busted by the Baatsona Divisional Police Command.

The gang reportedly engaged in trafficking girls from Nigeria into forced prostitution in Ghana.

An operation by the police conducted on Friday, March 24 at a hotel in Baatsona following a tip-off led to the arrest of two suspects, Ify Mba, 33, and Amanda Chioma Eze also known as Faith Eze, 23.

Six victims aged between 20 and 26 were rescued from the hotel.

Both the suspects and the victims admitted being Nigerians from Edo, Enugu, Abia, Anabra, Delta and Ibo states.

The victims said they were brought to Ghana instead of Europe as they were promised.

They identified Ify and Amanda as members of the syndicate that brought them to Ghana.

According to them, the traffickers told them they were being taken to Germany and Saudi Arabia to work as househelps.

The ringleader of the syndicate, one Slim Angel, is on the run, having taken $2,000 each from the victims.

The victims, some of whom are artisans, said they were made to swear an oath on arrival in Accra that they would never opt out of prostitution.

Four of them confessed having engaged in prostitution, making an average of N2,000.

The suspects arrested by the Baatsona Divisional Police Command

Both the victims and the suspects are to be handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for further investigations and prosecution.

The syndicate was given away after two of the victims opposed the idea and reportedly attracted attention through their protests.

They then led the police to arrest Ify Mba and Amanda Chioma Eze but their ringleader managed to escape.

The Baatsona Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Felix Cosmos, assured of their readiness to deal with such criminal activities which he said are gradually taking over their jurisdiction.

Chief Supt. Cosmos also appealed to hotel operators and hospitality service providers to be vigilant and prompt them at the slightest suspicion.
