The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a viral video administering a substance believed to be a cigarette to a child. Authorities identified the suspect as Samuel Obeng Acheampong, who was picked up on Nov. 22, 2025, in an intelligence-led operation.
According to police, Acheampong admitted to the act during interrogation and claimed the incident occurred about five years ago. He is currently in custody assisting investigators and is expected to be arraigned.
In a statement signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo of the Criminal Investigation Department, police reiterated their commitment to protecting children from abuse and harmful exposure.
The statement warned the public against conduct that endangers minors, noting that offenders will be pursued and prosecuted.
The Police Service urged citizens to prioritize child safety and report similar incidents promptly.
