Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang held a meeting with representatives of Jacob’s Foundation, a non-governmental organisation focused on improving foundational education in Ghana. The meeting, which took place with the Chair, Board, and Management of the foundation, was also attended by the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abasinaab Apaak.
During discussions, Jacob’s Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Government of Ghana through key education initiatives. Central to the conversation was the SCALE (System Change Architecture for Learning Excellence) programme, an $80 million multi-stakeholder initiative launched in mid-2025 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Global Partnership for Education. The programme targets two million children, trains teachers, and implements differentiated learning in 15,000 schools. SCALE is also designed to expand the reach and impact of the Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP).
Professor Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the importance of reviewing education initiatives to guide evidence-based decision-making and ensure relevance to national development goals. “Foundational learning remains a critical pillar of national development,” she said, “and quality must be matched with relevance to prepare young people to take charge of the country.”
She also emphasised the value of partnerships, stressing that collaborations must be regularly reviewed and structured within a long-term planning framework to ensure sustained impact. “Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and explore their full potential,” she said.
The Vice President called for careful attention to classroom dynamics and the role of educators, urging stakeholders to ensure that investments in education produce tangible results and lasting benefits for Ghanaian children.
