Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has called for a concerted effort to help curb the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
The musician, who said he has been unfavourably affected by the virus outbreak, is, therefore, urging people to put premium on human lives and lend a helping hand to people in need.
Speaking in a live video interview on the maiden edition of Covid 360 on TV3 with Berla Mundi and Anita Akua Akuffo, the dancehall artiste revealed that things have not been easy for him since the outbreak, which has seen the enforcement of a lockdown in some parts of Ghana.
“It’s been difficult. It has not been easy for people like me. This Coronavirus has really affected our work, getting closer to our fans, getting businesses here and there you know we travelling a lot…it’s about time we make hey while the sun shines [and] wait for a rainy day,” the ‘My Level’ hitmaker said.
Shatta Wale revealed that he had to cancel his US tour scheduled for this month because of coronavirus and he is still unsure when he will be able to embark on that tour.
In his own small way, the dancehall artiste has been supporting his fans and the general public with several items including over 1,000 sanitizers.
As the virus continues to take thousands of lives globally, Shatta Wale is calling on Ghanaians to believe in God and help people who are in need.
“This is the time that we need to come together and believe in God. This is the time that we need to really know that we need each other. This whole coronavirus thing is not a thing that we have to take for a joke…” he said.
The musician added that “I believe that we should support each other. This is the time that money is not even important now. Lives are important so people should try and lend a helping hand to people in need.”
Born Charles Nii-Armah Mensah Jr, Shatta Wale will be staging a free concert – Faith Concert – from his home on Saturday, April 4. The concert will be streamed live on his social media handles.
He told Berla Mundi that he has written to the police to give him support for the concert because he believes “it’s the time that people need our support”.
