Singer Wendy Shay has had a torrent time since she entered the Ghanaian music industry in 2018.

Before she could even release her first single, the singer has revealed that some people starting sending her death threats.

According to her, people felt she was coming in to bask in the glory of late musician Ebony Reigns, who died tragically in an accident on February 8, 2018, whilst returning to Accra from Sunyani.

The singer, who is signed to RuffTown Records, made this shocking revelation in an interview with Miriam Osei Agyemang on the Urban Blend on 3FM.

“Before I even released my first song immediately Bullet introduced me on the stage, the next day I started getting death threat messages…they are gonna kill me. People write me in my DMs (Direct Messages) ‘I know where you live I’m coming to kill you because you are trying to take Ebony’s place and you can never be like the queen (Ebony)’,” the ‘Bedroom Commando’ hit singer narrated.

Wendy Shay was introduced to music by CEO of RuffTown Records Bullet, who subsequently signed her in January 2018 after the untimely death of label mate Ebony Reigns.

On June 1, 2018, Wendy Shay released her debut single ‘Uber Driver’, produced by MOG Beatz. The song was released together with the official video the same day.

The singer explained that Ebony inspired her to work with RuffTown Records “when I saw her I was like wow if she could do it, I could do it too. So if I’m coming to Ghana and it’s not RuffTown Records then there is no need for me to come”.

“So when I came in and these things were happening I didn’t panic so much because I knew what I carried, I knew what I had in me and I knew that …time heals wounds. I realized that it’s gonna come to a time that where Ghanaians are gonna appreciate my effort and my hard work, my talent, my gift. I was just praying to God…,” she narrated.

Wendy Shay revealed that “I was also healing too because Ebony I told you she inspired me so I could understand them that was how come I didn’t put too much pressure on myself.”

Unfortunately, the singer has been at the receiving end of constant cyberbullying over her images and posts.

According to her, people constantly attack her because “they felt like I wanted to gain their love for Ebony by force without not doing anything…because ‘you haven’t done anything we should just accept you’. I’ve been through a lot.”

In the midst of the constant cyberbullying, Wendy Shay said she “never ever thought I was going to quit music” because music is her passion.

Even when Bullet introduced her to some big players in the creative industry, they all said “Bullet forget it it’s not gonna work” but did not deter her dream of doing music.

Clarifying suggestions that she doesn’t want to replace Ebony but calls herself the ‘Queen of Ghana music’, Wendy Shay said “‘Queen of Ghana music’ is different from Ebony and I said I don’t wanna replace Ebony but I didn’t say I didn’t wanna take the title as ‘Queen of Ghana music’ because I don’t remember Ebony even claiming ever that she is the Queen of Ghana music. The name ‘Queen of Ghana music’ was given to me by my fans” because she has worked hard for it.
