Former Captain of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan has expressed confidence in the current team to make it from the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He said expectations of Ghanaians are high to see the Black Stars make it to the next stage.
Gyan was reacting to the draw held on Friday, December 5 at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC.
Ghana were drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
Speaking openly at the Center when asked about the capability of the 2010 quarter-finalists to make it to the Round of 32, Gyan, who scored the country’s first ever World Cup goal, admitted that the group is tricky.
“I think it is a very tricky group, all the four teams want to qualify,” he remarked.
“Definitely, everybody back home want Ghana to qualify, so we will do our possible best to qualify to the next stage.”
Ghana will begin their campaign on Wednesday, June 17, six days after the opening fixture, before taking on England on Tuesday, June 23.
The Black Stars will finally play Croatia on Saturday, June 27 to wrap up the group phase.
