Zonta e-Club Of West Africa, a member of Zonta International has donated items to the Nsawam Female Prison in the Eastern Region in support of their care.
The gesture was to mark the Zonta Rose Day, March 8, a day also marked as International Women’s Day; a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played extraordinary roles in the history of their countries and communities.
It was also to visit and interact with the inmates and assess how best the group could come to the aid of the inmates.
The items donated included care packages like toiletries, snacks, toothbrushes, soap, face towels, and hand sanitizers.
Leader of the Zonta e-Club Of West Africa , Joyce Dzide –Tei in leading the team to present the items said the group saw the need to observe, remember and celebrate the day with the female inmates.
Zonta e-Club Of West Africa also honored three(3) female officers who have gone beyond their call of duty, particularly in rehabilitating inmates.
Gifts and certificates were presented to the 3 female officers namely, DSP Victoria Serwaa-Appiah, ACO Comfort Obiri and ACO Evelyn Harvey, which were taken on their behalf by other officers.
By the celebration, the group proclaimed its social contribution as being worthy of honor for the many hours, days, weeks and months, dedicated to their work.
Chief Superintendent of Prisons, CSP Janet Asabea, who received the items on behalf of the prison, expressed gratitude to the organisation.
She noted that more of such support is needed for the smooth running of the prisons.
In an interaction with the prisoners, they expressed gratitude and wished for more visits.
