Magistrate at the Donkorkrom Magistrate Court His Worship Augustine Akusar-Am has slapped two women with a 12-month bond of good behaviour each for selling poisonous puffer fish.
The two were arrested and arraigned before court on Thursday for selling puffer fish, which reportedly killed a few people after consumption.
According to the two fish sellers, Safia Kotokoli, 74, and Abigail Donkor, 35, they had no idea the fish contained poisonous substances.
They, however, pleaded guilty of the charge and pleaded with the court to pardon them.
The District Coordinating Director, Amarh Tandoh, who was also present during the hearing, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.
He said the district will embark on a sensitisation and education programme on puffer fish.
In his ruling, Justice Akusar-Am ruled that the two should sign a bond of good behaviour for the next 12 months and also had all their goods confiscated and burnt in public to serve as example to all.
Two people died and four underwent treatment after eating fufu and the puffer fish soup.
The four are still receiving care at the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital in the Afram Plains North District of the Eastern Region.
The Kwahu Afram Plains North District has set up a committee to help educate the public on the puffer fish.
