Seventy-five brilliant but needy tertiary students in the Assin South Constituency of the Central Region have benefited from a scholarship package that will cater for part of their tuition fees and academic research for the 2017/2018 academic year.

The package was instituted by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South Constituency, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour.

The beneficiary students are in the first, second, third and fourth years in universities, technical universities, colleges of education, nursing training colleges and other tertiary institutions across the country.

The scholarship scheme of GH¢30,000 was instituted by MP Reverend Ntim Fordjour to reduce the burden on parents.

Throwing more light on why he instituted the scholarship for his constituents on TV3’s New Day on Tuesday, Rev. Fordjour said many students face financial challenges in the district, a situation which has the tendency to affect their performance and progression in school.

He said the scholarship package is to lessen the burden on parents regarding the payment of tuition fees and purchase of books.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP said with the scholarship package, the beneficiary students will feel motivated and comfortable to study hard and excel in their examinations.

The man of God noted that he intended to expand the scholarship package next academic year to benefit more students in his constituency.

Rev. Fordjour indicated that his vision is to see the constituency produce more graduates who will contribute to the socio-economic development of the area.

In a related development, Rev. Fordjour has donated building materials, comprising 50 bags of cement and one tonne of iron rods, towards the construction of the Darmang Catholic Basic School.

He pledged to liaise with relevant bodies to equip the school’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre with computers and accessories.
