TV3’s Alfred Ocansey selected for 2019 Mandela Washington Fellowship

[Middle] Alfred Ocansey is TV3’s prime time news anchor
TV3’s prime time news anchor and head of Media General business desk, Alfred Akrofi Ocansey, has been named as one of the finalists for the 2019 Mandela Washington Fellowship.

The multiple award-winning journalist is expected to spend six weeks in the United States participating in professional development training in leadership in public management.

He is among 32 Ghanaians selected from over 4,000 applicants who applied to the flagship programme of Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).

The programme aims to nurture a generation of African leaders to push economic growth, improve democratic and strengthen civil society structures that will make the continent a better place.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship connects young African leaders to leadership training opportunities at some of America’s top universities to expand their leadership skills and knowledge.

The US Ambassador to Ghana,  explained that exchange programmes as the Mandela Fellowship do not only provide professional skills and networking opportunities but, provides the platform to form friendships and bonds.

“The Mandela fellowship for young African leaders is held in high esteem by the United States government, and we are proud of the best of the best of Ghanaian youth leaders in various fields going to partake in this program”, Ambassador Stephanie Sullivan said.

Alfred Ocansey, who is a primetime news anchor and head of the business desk at TV3 says he looks forward to many learning opportunities during his time in the united states.

“It was a very rigorous application process and I’m happy I was selected to be part of this amazing group of young people. It is an opportunity to learn new things, grow and add value to myself, share with my colleagues for us to grow together,” he said.

Alfred Ocansey hosted the 2019 African Union (AU) Commission conference on Trade

Aside his corporate responsibilities, Alfred leads the Wamie Social Volunteers, a group of young men and women in the corporate world who spend their weekends volunteering in rehabilitation centers and shelters for the homeless.

The 32 Ghanaian finalists who will be studying in various universities across the United States for six weeks, comprise young lecturers, educationists, a navy officer, medical doctors, entrepreneurs, community leaders and civic activists.

They will also have the opportunity to pitch their ideas and meet some top business and public sector leaders at a summit to be held in Washington D.C.

The 32 Ghanaian finalists will join 650 other finalists from 47 African countries.
