Mfantsipim School toppled St. Augustine’s College to win the Super Zonals Athletics Competition for senior high schools in the Central region. After a four-year dominance by Augusco, Mfantsipim school came through with the wind of change to take the trophy this year. The Red and Black boys had a great competition – winning the boys 800m, 1500m, 5000m, the boys 1000m medley, the 4x400m, 400m among others. Most of their disciplines they won were orchestrated by one boy, Aziz Mohammed. The long and middle distance runner, also walked away with the best athlete award – an award he has won every year since he enrolled in Mfantsipim. Adisadel College who also had an exciting competition winning most of the sprint races to maintain their third position from last year but with a better points total. 100m sprinter Abdul Razak Sheriff being the shining light for the Santaclausians. In the girls’ division, it was a free fall for defending Champions, Wesley Girls High School who placed 4th and relinquished the top spot to Holy Child School. Holy Child’s Pearl Awanya bolted her way through the races and helped the school break a 25-year old record in 4x400m race. Holy Child won the girls’ javelin, 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x400m and many others to make an incredible statement this year.
