Reigning VGMA Artiste of the Year Kuami Eugene has distanced himself from Sarkodie’s ‘Happy Day’ despite being featured by the Artiste of the Decade.
“It is not about whether or not there was an endorsement, it’s just the fact that I had no idea about it. As a human, I hate to be kept in the shadows. And right now I’m just in the middle. I don’t know what’s going on. I’m just an innocent young guy who did a feature for someone I respect in the industry.”
The song has stirred controversy as it is purported to have endorsed incumbent president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The president himself has since endorsed the “nice song”.

But speaking on ShowBuzz with MzGee on 3FM on Tuesday, November 3, the ‘Open Gate’ hitmaker said he only performed his lines and was not privy to the whole song.
“I still don’t know the idea behind the whole song,” he said.
He feared the backlash emanating from the song and hopes it will not affect his “young” career.
“I am just uncomfortable that I can’t just defend myself because I have no idea.”
He, however, indicated that the development will not affect his relationship with Sarkodie as it is being dealt with at a management-to-management level.
“Of course, if it was done with a political mindset it will have a toll on my career I won’t lie. If this is how it is going to end, then it will be sad because when it affects me I will be a young guy who didn’t know and will be part of the story. I don’t talk to Sark. It’s a management-to-management issue. If he wants to talk, he needs to call Linx Entertainment or Richie. I don’t talk to Sark. The last we spoke was at the shoot where he saw me for a long time. That’s why I didn’t confront him.”
