The family of the late Nana Osei Boansi Kuffour is requesting an autopsy report from the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, where he died.
Nana Osei Boansi Kuffour, who is the father of renowned musician Obour, died at the Hospital on Friday, March 27.
He is said to have tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease.
There was controversy surrounding the death as the family was accused of failing to share necessary information on the deceased’s travel history with the hospital staff.
He was taken to the hospital after only testing positive for malaria, Obour said in a statement after the death, and was awaiting test results on Covid-19 when he died.
Some hospital staff who attended to Mr Boansi Kuffour were quarantined while the emergency centre was shut down for disinfection due to the incident.
“We are informed by our client that since the death of the deceased, they have not received any communication from your outfit regarding the requisite procedures to be undertaken to ensure that the family is able to plan for the aftermath of his death,” solicitors for the family wrote in a letter to the Chief Executive Officer of Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
“Our client has instructed us to demand on their behalf, the autopsy report confirming the cause of death of the deceased,” wrote lead solicitor Bobby Banson.
It said if the Hospital is not even in a position to undertake the autopsy within the shortest possible time, an independent medical officer would be contracted to do so subject to safety measure and regulations.
