Former Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Professor Frimpong-Boateng, says he feels targeted following his invitation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor and subsequent arrest.
The former Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) suggested that the current turn of events has made him feel victimised.
When asked whether he feels targeted, he responded that “of course in a way. I will be a fool not to feel that way.”
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng believes that he has done no wrong regarding his duties as Chairman of IMCIM and therefore does not understand the treatment being meted out to him.
He added that if a few people in the country behaved like him, Ghana will not be the way it is currently.
He made the disclosure in an interview following his recent arrest and subsequent bail to the tune of GH¢2 million.
The former Chairman of IMCIM was invited to answer questions on corruption and corruption-related activities following leakage of his galamsey report.
He was also arrested for alleged involvement in the missing of some 500 excavators and the involvement Symphony Limited, the company owned by his son, in illegal mining.
He narrated in an interview with Alfred Ocansey on Wednesday, June 7 that he found his arrest a little bit strange.
In a blow by blow account, he said that they arrived around 10:00 at the Office of the Special Prosecutor and it was his first time in that building.
He was made to wait at the lobby and when his lawyer came, “we were taken upstairs to the 7th Floor or so, where the office is and then we were ushered into a room. I was given a chair and opposite me was the Chief Investigator.
The renowned surgeon continued that when they sat down, “the Chief Investigator came to me. I was sitting down [then] he put his left hand on my right shoulder and said, ‘Professor, you are under arrest’.
