Don’t engage in ‘beef’ – Noble Nketsiah to Joe Mettle, Patience Nyarko

Gospel musician Noble Nketsiah has urged colleague musicians Joe Mettle and Patience Nyarko not to fuel the on-going controversy about their music.

He notes that comments made by Patience Nyarko about Joe Mettle’s music, which has sparked an on-going debate in the gospel music fraternity, must not be encouraged.

Speaking in an interview on Showbiz 927 on 3FM with MzGee, Noble Nketsiah urged the artistes not to make further comments on the issue but rather concentrate on their craft.

“If I have the opportunity to meet any one of them, the only thing I could tell them is not to engage themselves in this because it gives a bad image to the world.”

Patience Nyarko, speaking in an interview on Anigye Mmre on Onua FM with Frimpong Agyei Christian courted a lot of controversy when she said Joe Mettle is overhyped and that he may not find his mettle when the Methodist Church or the Church of Pentecost directs that their songs should not be used by musicians in Ghana.

“How many English songs has Joe Mettle composed in this country? Let [the Church of] Pentecost and Methodist Church come out with a directive that no musician should sing their songs, I tell you he will fall,” she said.

Noble Nketsiah noted that no one should hold themselves as the best because in God’s kingdom, no one is above the other.

“We need to understand why God gave us the gift. Someone thinks she/he is better than the other but in God’s kingdom, no one is best. In God’s kingdom, it is what you’ve been given that you give. Let’s all enjoy what we have, use the blessing to many,” he urged.

To him, the most important aspect of their music is the calling irrespective of the language they choose to minister or sing in.

The ‘M3to’ singer cited, for example, that he knows “an American who loves my music even though she doesn’t understand what I write about. What do you think is the reason? It’s because God made it so. Let Patience Nyarko bless the people she blesses, and let Joe Mettle bless people he blesses. Together, we are blessing many.”

He stressed that gospel musicians should not concentrate on awards but rather see the laurels that may come their way as an “appreciation” but they will “fail” if they are into the craft because of awards.
