Asunafo South: Mahama pledges to construct cocoa processing facility at Kukuom

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised to build a cocoa processing facility in Kukuom, located in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region.

Speaking during a campaign stop in the Ahafo Region, Mahama reiterated his commitment to tackling the pervasive issue of youth unemployment while driving regional development across the country.

His industrialisation agenda, which includes the construction of the cocoa processing facility, is part of a broader economic transformation plan centred around his proposed 24-hour economy policy.

Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy envisions a dynamic and bustling economy where businesses and industries operate continuously, 24 hours a day.

This initiative is designed to increase productivity, improve accessibility to services and goods, and, most importantly, create employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.

The policy aims to tap into Ghana’s growing population, ensuring that sectors such as manufacturing, processing, logistics, and services can operate around the clock, thereby creating more shifts and jobs for the country’s expanding labour force.

Mahama emphasised that the cocoa processing facility would be a key piece in his broader industrialization agenda, which aims to establish industrial hubs across the country, particularly in regions with strong agricultural outputs.

“I was very happy with the chief’s submission because of his understanding of our 24-hour economy policy. We have realised that, to successfully implement the policy, we need to embark on a massive industrialisation drive and as part of that, we will construct a cocoa processing facility for the Kukuom community.

“This will discontinue the exportation of cocoa for processing.”
