The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a planned robbery targeting a gold miner in the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, identified as Stephen Kwakye, was arrested on 30 December 2025 at Manso Abrense near Manso Nsiana following intelligence that he and accomplices were conspiring to attack a miner who regularly transports gold to Kumasi for sale.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Kwakye played a central role in organising the planned robbery, including monitoring the victim’s movements and coordinating with other suspects to carry out the attack while the miner was in transit.
Police said officers placed the suspect under surveillance and arrested him when he appeared to collect his share of the proceeds after being falsely informed that the robbery had been successful.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted his involvement in organising the crime.
Kwakye remains in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest his accomplices to face prosecution in accordance with the law.
