The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects in connection with a syndicate that allegedly uses taxis to steal mobile phones and other valuables from unsuspecting passengers.
The suspects, identified as Sasu Lawrence, also known as Agbe, Richard Osei, and Charles Kofi Nti, also known as Survivor, were apprehended on 12th January following an intelligence-led operation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the syndicate operates mainly during the early hours, posing as taxi drivers searching for passengers. Two suspects sit in the front, while a third positions himself at the back seat.
According to police, when a victim predominantly women boards the vehicle, the suspects deliberately lock the doors, preventing the passenger from leaving. While appearing to assist, the back-seat occupant allegedly seizes the opportunity to steal mobile phones or wallets.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with investigations. Authorities are also working to identify and apprehend individuals involved in receiving and trading in the stolen items.
The Ghana Police Service has urged members of the public to remain vigilant when using taxis and report suspicious activity immediately. The investigation remains ongoing as police aim to dismantle the entire syndicate and bring all accomplices to justice.
