The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted 17 police officers in recognition of what the service described as exceptional operational performance and professionalism.

The promotions were conferred on January 27, 2026, following the officers’ roles in separate security operations that led to major seizures of suspected narcotics and firearms. According to the Ghana Police Service, the officers were involved in intercepting 10 wrapped slabs of substances suspected to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of more than GHC 1 million, as well as sacks of suspected narcotic drugs at Ho in the Volta Region.

In another operation, officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action shotgun and eight rounds of live AAA ammunition during a routine patrol at Jacobu.

Mr Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board, congratulated the officers on their elevation, praising their discipline, courage and commitment to duty. He said their actions reflected the core values of the service and demonstrated the impact of professionalism in the fight against crime.

The IGP urged the newly promoted officers to see their advancement as a call to higher responsibility rather than a reward alone. He also encouraged all personnel to remain diligent, stressing that excellence, integrity and dedication continue to form the basis for recognition and promotion within the Ghana Police Service.
