The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CE TAG) has announced a suspension of the industrial action declared on Monday, November 24, 2025.
This follows the release of funds by government to settle the 2023/2024 Book and Research Allowance, the 2022 Research Top-up Allowance for Akrokerri College of Education and the All-Year-Round Work Compensation for additional duties performed in 2022.
“CETAG acknowledges this development as a significant step towards addressing the concerns that necessitated the industrial action,” a statement issued by the Association on Monday, February 16 said.
“We commend the government for responding to these critical financial commitments.”
The Association, however, observed that two outstanding issues that are currently before the National Labour Commission (NLC) remain unresolved.
These are the 2022/23 Book and Research Allowance, which they have agreed to be paid on pro rata basis, and the downgrading of experienced teachers holding Master’s degrees, a move they claim undermines professional dignity and contravenes conditions of service and the Labour Act.
“While the strike has been suspended in good faith, CETAG respectfully urges the NLC to expedite action on these pending matters to. ensure a comprehensive and lasting resolution,” the statement jointly signed by the National President and the National Secretary said.
They assured members affected by the downgrading that the issues remains a priority and “will be pursued to its logical conclusion”.
The statement urged all members in all Colleges of Education to resume academic duties and return to the lecture halls from Monday, February 16.
It eexpressed profound gratitude to members for their unwavering solidarity, patience and support throughout the strike period.
