The Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG) has declared an indefinite strike effective Thursday, October 1.
This comes barely a week after three pre-tertiary unions – the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association (PRETTY) – embarked on similar industrial action over their conditions of service.
According to TUTAG, members are also faced with unpaid remuneration over their post-retirement contracts.
But their major concerns have to do with changes to members’ agreed Scheme of Service.
Speaking to the press at the Ho Technical University on Thursday, October 1, TUTAG President Professor Deodat Adenutsi said the delay has left unbearable hardship on some of the members, undermining confidence in some of the state institutions.
Prof Adenutsi insists they will back down on their action after some demands are met.
“TUTAG therefore demands the immediate settlement of all verified outstanding contractual regulation and a clear written payment timetable communicated to the affected members.”
He expressed concerns that some government agencies are introducing and applying administrstive arrangement inconsistent with TUTAG’s scheme of service.
