Founder of newly formed People’s Action Party (PAP) Kwesi Busumbru says the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is just a slogan party.
Busumbru says the government’s flagship programme, the Free Senior High School Policy, that the party touts as an unbeatable precedent, is not well thought-out but just a slogan the party used to win power in the 2016 general elections.
The less-than-a-year-old party founder was speaking to 3FM’s Blakk Kobby on the award winning reggae programme Reggae Vibes.
Mr. Busumbru said over 20 years of leadership from the two main political parties that have dominated the country political space haven’t done any good to the country.
Commenting on some constitutional reforms his party would consider if it comes into power, he says the PAP will take out the indemnity clause in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana that makes it difficult to prosecute a former president.
He feels the law must work at all times no matter who is involved or is caught up in corrupt action.
“So after a year or two in government, we will have a referendum where the indemnity clause will be scrapped,” he said.
On youth development, he said the youth are not given proper training, unlike the youth in other developing countries that had their independence same time as Ghana.
According to him, Ghana owes over $30 billion which he claims will not happen under his administration, stating his focus will be on youth development, policing, health and education.
He is also of the view that the Akufo-Addo-led government has failed Ghanaians and cannot get the four more years it is seeking.
As a flagbearer of the People’s Action Party (PAP), he is positive to emerge victorious in the upcoming presidential elections after a run-off.
Meanwhile, the party is yet to outdoor a running mate.
