Defamation: Kofi Adams sues Obiri Boahene, two others for GHc3m

Nana Obiri Boahene[/caption] The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, Kofi Adams has finally filed a suit claiming 3 million cedis damage against deputy General Secretary of the NPP Nana Obiri Boahene and two members of the party. David Asante, a member of the NPP communications team and Kwame Baffoe, alias Abronye DC, the Brong Ahafo Youth Organiser of the NPP, are the two others joined in the suit that was filed on February 22, 2017. According Kofi Adams, the three made defamatory statement against him when they alleged that he stole state vehicles after national security operatives seized five cars from his house. The vehicles have since been returned after the Criminal Investigations Department of police found out that the vehicles were his. [caption id="attachment_41509" align="aligncenter" width="564"] Some of the cars that was taken away by the security operatives[/caption] The NDC National Organiser is in all seeking eight claims against the NPP members at the Accra High Court. The claims are: (i) An order for an unconditional retraction and an unqualified apology for the said defamatory comments/broadcasts/publication. Doing so separately and in the Daily Graphic newspaper and for same to be given equal prominence and the complained comment/broadcast/publication within 14 days from the day of judgment (ii) an order that the content of relief (i) above be subject to the prior approval of plaintiff and for defendants to personally and separately read out same on all media networks mentioned in paragraphs 12 above and doing so within 14 days from the day of judgement (iii) an order of perpetual injunction restraining defendants from any further comments of said complained defamation (iv) general damages for defamation (v) aggravated or exemplary damages for the malicious defamation (vi) compensatory damages of GHS1m each for injury to character and integrity (viii) cost including legal fees (viii) further or other reliefs By Isaac Essel |3news.com| Ghana Follow @isaacessel]]>
