Interim Head Coach of Asante Kotoko Prince Yaw Owusu has stepped down from his role with immediate effect, the club has said.
In a statement issued on Monday, April 20, the club noted that the coach adduced that the decision “was taken in the greatest interest of the club”.
Yaw Owusu was handed temporary charge of the team after the resignation of Abdul-Karim Zito in February. He was then the Assistant Coach.
“Management expresses its sincere appreciation to Coach for his service, dedication, and commitment during his time with the club, and wishes him the very best in his future endeavours,” the statement signed by Communications Director Samuel Sarfo Duku said.
“In the interim, Youth Team Coach Hamza Obeng will take charge of the team for the remaining games of the season,” the statement further said.
It added: “Further arrangements shall be communicated in due course.”
This cones after news that Coach Owusu had left camp without notice.
The club, however, rejected those rumours, claiming the coach has sought permission to mourn his late mother.
Asante Kotoko’s fortunes have dwindled quite recently in the Ghana Premier League, falling to sixth after climbing as high as second on the log.
They lost their last match 4-0 away to leaders Medeama SC and are scheduled to face Hohoe United in their next encounter.
