The energetic Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has categorically stated that the successful inaugural edition of the 2025 Ashanti Festival was funded entirely through sponsorship and did not tap into government finances.

Emphasizing the importance of avoiding any potential misconceptions regarding the festival’s funding, Dr. Amoakohene highlighted the event’s independence from state funds. The festival, which spanned ten days and featured a myriad of engaging activities such as fashion showcases, sports events, arts exhibitions, and tourism attractions, was made possible thanks to the generous contributions of various sponsors.

During the festival’s grand finale in Kwabre, Dr. Amoakohene praised the support received from companies, particularly highlighting the significant backing from telecom giant MTN. He expressed gratitude towards all the businesses that embraced the development agenda of the region and lent their support to ensure the success of Ashantifest.

The Minister, representing President John Mahama, underscored the importance of fostering partnerships with local companies to bolster regional initiatives. Dr. Amoakohene assured attendees that the festival, which coincided with Easter festivities, would become an annual showcase celebrating the region’s rich heritage, talent, and potential.

Promising equitable development for the Ashanti region, which notably favored the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the recent general elections despite being the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Amoakohene assured that the government will prioritize the region’s advancement.

Addressing the state of local markets in Mampongten and Krofrom, the Minister noted plans for their improvement under the guidance of the Minister for Local Government Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim.

The concept of Ashantifest emerged during a youth-led clean-up exercise in the Kumasi metropolis, evolving into a comprehensive platform to promote inter-sectorial collaboration, according to Dr. Amoakohene. The festival kicked off with a community clean-up campaign across Municipal and District Assemblies, followed by a diverse array of events including sports contests, cultural showcases, and educational activities.

Esteemed guests and celebrities including Nana Ama Mcbrown, Kweku Manu, Fanny Face, Dr. Likee, Strongman Burner, Okyeame Kwame, and many others enriched the festival with their presence, adding to the cultural vibrancy of the region.

Despite criticism from NPP Communication Director Paul Yandoh for hosting the festival without the presence of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, many have praised Dr. Amoakohene for his administrative prowess and dedication to uplifting the region. Amidst the accolades, Dr. Amoakohene’s leadership during the Ashantifest has garnered unwavering support from various quarters.
