Government says a total of 14,160 trained teachers from various Colleges of Education were posted by the Ghana Education Service in 2017, Education Minister Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh has told parliament.
The figure, he said, was made up of 11,733 graduates from public colleges of education and 2,427 from the private colleges.
He said this while answering question from the ranking member on Education, Peter Nortsu on the floor of the House Tuesday.“This was the first time ever that graduates of the private colleges of education [were] directly posted by the Ghana Education Service,” the minister stated.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh said the trained teachers posted by the GES were currently having their national service and are expected to write their teacher licensure examinations before they complete the service, our correspondent Komla Klutse reported.
Those who pass their licensure exams and seeking teaching employment under government institutions, he said, will further be required to apply to be considered based on declared vacancies by the GES.
“Those who pass the licensure exams at the end of their national service shall then apply to the Ghana Education Service for employment based on declared vacancies,” he said.
