A female accountant and her assistant, who allegedly misappropriated 551,732.64 cedis from the account of a private hospital in Takoradi, have been put before court.
Linda Nana Donkor and Magdalene Kublenu Walagyo were arraigned Tuesday on charges of conspiracy to steal, stealing and falsification of electronic documents.
Prosecutors say both Donkor and her assistant Walagyo, are in charge of collecting monies from clients of UQ Hospital and depositing same into the hospital’s main account.
An internal audit undertaken in September 2018 revealed that the main financial database of the hospital had been tempered with and an amount of 551,732.64 cedis missing or unaccounted for.
The audit further revealed that cash receipts between January and September 2018, were never deposited into the hospital’s account.
Donkor and Walagyo who have been working with the hospital for the past 6 and 4 years respectively were subsequently confronted by management of UQ Hospital when the anomaly was detected by the auditor on October 11, 2019.
According to prosecutors, Donkor and Walagyo failed to respond to two separate queries on the findings of the audit report.
The two, according to prosecutors, failed to account for the missing amount after the audit report was finally released to management of the hospital in November 2018.
They were thus arrested and put before the Sekondi High Court Tuesday, but they failed make appearance.
The case has been adjourned to January 15, 2020.
