Accra Academy’s chase for a maiden title in the National Science and Maths Quiz began on Thursday when they came up against TI Ahmadiyya Senior High School of Fomena, Ashanti Region and Abuakwa State College at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS).
It was the final one-eighth contest of the day and the Greater Accra Region school stamped their authority at the end of the race despite amassing only 2 points in the Problem of the Day segment.
They trailed TI AMASS in the first round by three points but a substitution in the second round saw them close the gap on the Fomena-based school.
After Round 4, the Bleoo Boys were above TI AMASS with Abuakwa State College in a distant third.
Accra Aca finished off the contest in the final round answering two riddles to stretch their lead.
They carried the day with 34 points with TI AMASS on 27 points, same as Abuakwa State College.
Accra Aca’s quarter-final clash will be against Tepa SHS, who saw off seeded Islamic SHS, and St John’s Grammar, who beat Bishop Herman College in the first contest of the day.
Aside BIHECO, St John’s Grammar also beat Ghana National College.
That contest, the first for the day, ended 35 points for the Grammarians, 29 points for Kpando-based BIHECO, and 21 for Nananom.
In the second contest, Tepa SHS led from Round 1 and they finished with a whopping 40 points.
Seeded Islamic SHS trailed them in a distant second on 22 points and Awudome SHS finished third on 19 points.
