President John Dramani Mahama has pledged unwavering commitment to the independence of the judiciary as he swore in new Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie. He said it is a “constitutional necessity” to ensure the independence of the judiciary as that gives a protection to all citizens including the President. President Mahama administered the oath of allegiance, oath of secrecy and oath of office to Justice Baffoe-Bonnie as he takes over in a substantive role as Ghana’s Chief Justice. He received an overwhelming majority headcount in Parliament to be approved for the role. This came in contrast to the controversy before and…
A school has banned the singing of songs from hit Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters over concerns they are not in keeping with its “Christian ethos”. Lilliput Church of England Infant School in Poole, Dorset, sent a message to parents on Friday saying some members of the community are “deeply uncomfortable” with references to demons. It said this was because they “associate them with spiritual forces opposed to God and goodness”. In an update on Monday, acting head teacher Lloyd Allington said he had since received feedback from parents, highlighting positive messages from the songs, but said the school was…
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Friday, November 14 stormed an apartment to arrest 10 individuals, all Nigerians, engaged in prohibited cyber activities. The arrested include three suspects and seven victims, aged between 17 and 30 years. The operation was under the ‘Operation LIFELINE’ of EOCO. The seven victims had been trafficked to Ghana with promises of juicy employment only to be subjected to harsh and exploitative conditions, compelling most of them to engage in online fraud schemes and cyber activities. In a news release on Monday, EOCO encouraged the public to use its hotlines to report suspicious…

Two supporters of Aduana FC have been confirmed dead following an accident involving a tricycle they were returning home in. Numbered five, the supporters of the Dormaa-based side were travelling back home after the 1-1 draw against Asante Kotoko. They were said to have travelled from Aboaso Zongo to support their iconic midfielder Seidu Saana. “We are aware of the incident involving some of our fans at Aboaso in the Ashanti Region last night,” Aduana FC said in a club notice on Monday, November 17. “We regret to announce that two of the fans have lost their lives and two…

On November 13, the Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, unveiled the 2026 budget before a boisterous Parliament, pledging tax reliefs for businesses, bold industrial policies, 800,000 jobs, and expanded social protection under a disciplined fiscal framework. Though budgets are an annual ritual, this one feels like a bold blueprint for transformation, not just recovery. But will these ambitious plans move from paper to pavement? For entrepreneurs like us, Ghana and the broader Africa’s Achilles heel has never been planning; it is always execution. For decades, we’ve seen brilliant blueprints gather dust while citizens wait for promises to materialize. Throughout the…
I love soups, especially palm nut soup. They breathe life into my life. Like every meal, every ingredient ― no matter how little ― is very important. When soup lacks an ingredient, it does not taste the same. A careful observation of all the recent happenings on the African landscape points to how leadership is perceived in this side of the world. The standards of leadership have sunk so low, and the living standards of Africans keep sinking even lower. Slavery in the hands of the white man was bad. Unfortunately, slavery in the hands of our fellow black men…
