Medical negligence may seem difficult to prove owing to the protection health professionals get by legislation. While some surgeries end up with permanent disability, others result in fatalities. But how can a lay person prove medical negligence? Medical negligence is said to occur when a medical professional fails to provide acceptable standard of care, causing injury or harm to the patient. This may be by causing a new injury or illness due to substandard care or by making an existing injury or medical condition worse. Over the years here in Ghana, there have been reported cases of some people losing…

The association between self-reported ill health and a poor work-life balance was slightly more pronounced among women than men Those who struggle to achieve a balance between their professional and personal lives are twice as likely to report physical ill health, according to a new study published in the journal BMC Public Health. Data on more than 32,000 working European men and women was examined, including information on 1,600 Britons. Researchers found the association between self-reported ill health and a poor work-life balance was slightly more pronounced among women compared to men. But men were more likely to report poor work-life…
To lay bare the scale of challenges small businesses are facing in the Covid-19 pandemic, and to understand their ongoing challenges and areas for further support, Facebook published the Global State of Small Business Report. In Ghana, the survey reveals that despite the challenges, SMBs are very optimistic about the future of their businesses. Over 69% of operational SMBs on Facebook feel optimistic about the future of their business, with 68% of male-led…
After producing Abedi Pele, one of Africa’s most prominent players, the Tamale Kaladan Park in the Northern Region quickly became one of the most iconic football grounds in Ghana. But what has the story of this taled grounds been? This has been a real football ground in Ghana. Before the construction of the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in 2008 for that year’s Africa Cup of Nations, the Kaladan Park served the north for decades. Hosting club games in the Ghana Premier League for Real Tamale United, the Kaladan Park was the pride of the north. These days, the decent grass…
National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency Samuel Nartey George has urged Ghanaians to disregard reports making rounds that the International Criminal Police Organisation, INTERPOL, has issued an arrest warrant for Samuel Adam Foster, also known as Samuel Adam Mahama. “The Interpol has not issued any warrant for Adam Mahama,” he strongly stated on TV3’s New Day on Friday, July 17. He was speaking in the wake of reports on Thursday that Interpol has been alerted by its local office in Ghana to cause the arrest of Ghanaian-British citizen Adam Mahama, who is widely known to be…
The quest for a new voters’ register has been one of the biggest controversies in the run-up to Ghana’s 2020 general elections. Origin of controversy The idea for a new voters’ register pre-dates the 2020 election cycle. The then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) first made the claim that the register that was used for the 2012 election was bloated. At the time, General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong claimed, “The electoral register in its current state is incurably flawed and cannot be relied on for the all-important 2016 election.” He further added that, “a fresh registration will go a long way…
Brazil has now tallied more than two million confirmed virus cases. It was less than a month ago that Brazil reached one million cases – and there is little sign that the rate of increase is slowing. Brazil, which is home to around 210 million people, is the second worst affected country behind the US. But President Jair Bolsonaro, who tested positive for the virus, has continued to play down its health risks and fought against social distancing orders. More than 74,000 people have died from the virus – and the true figures are believed to be even higher. Meanwhile,…
Professor Ransford Gyampo of the Department of Political Science, University of Ghana, has argued that Ghana’s quest to tackle Covid-19 must first begin with a sophisticated awareness of the caliber of people who constitute the population of the nation. He noted that one of the several distinguishing features of developing countries all over the world is that they have a huge chunk of their population being ignorant. Failure on the part of policy makers to appreciate this would always be a recipe for policy failure, as the ignorant ones will rise to oppose the very intervention aimed at making them…
