Former Chief Executive Officer of Venture Capital Trust Fund Daniel Duku and two other senior executives have agreed to refund a total of GH¢18.5 million to the state. This followed a decision by the High Court presided over by Justice Anthony Oppong on Friday, July 10. The Court had earlier rejected an offer of restitution from the executives standing trial. They are accused of causing financial loss to the state. A Tamale High Court presided over by Justice Osei Gyamfi has given a month ultimatum to the Technical Universities Administrators Association of Ghana TUSAAG) to hand over leadership of the association to elected executives of the Bolgatanga Technical University. The Court has also ordered executives of the Accra Technical University (AUT) who were sworn in as national executives to with immediate effect seize to hold themselves as such. A GH¢20,000 damages has also been given in favour of the plaintiffs. US President Donald Trump has commuted the prison sentence of his longtime ally and former adviser Roger Stone. The move – sparing Stone from jail but not a pardon – came just after a court denied Stone’s request to delay the start date of his 40-month prison term. He was convicted of lying to Congress, obstruction and witness tampering. Ghana’s coronavirus case count has risen yet again as 371 new infections have been recorded. Six patients have also lost their lives, according to the latest statistics on the management of the disease in the country. Among the new deaths is a 24-year-old lady from the Oti Region. Two are from the Northern Region, two are from the Central Region and the last person is from the Western Region. This brings the total number of deaths since the outbreak of the disease to 135. So far, 23,834 cases have been recorded with a total of 19,212 patients recovered or discharged.…

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the head of the country’s anti-corruption body, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, who is himself being investigated for alleged corruption. A statement from Nigeria’s Justice Minister says the suspension of Ibrahim Magu is to allow for “unhindered inquiry” into his conduct. This is the first official confirmation of the suspension after days of rumours.
