Former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Publishing Company Limited David Asante has rejected comments by President John Dramani Mahama suggesting that the company’s recent improvements were largely a result of the current administration’s efforts. Mr Asante was responding to remarks made by the President during a visit to the company last week, where he described GPCL’s past reputation as being “like Siberia.” In a statement, Mr Asante said the President was right in acknowledging that the company was in a poor state after 2016, but stressed that the turnaround occurred between 2017 and 2024 under the New Patriotic Party…
Former Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam has raised concerns over alleged misreporting by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) regarding a supposed GH¢3.8 billion loss under the Gold for Reserves programme in 2024. Speaking on his Facebook page, Dr Amin Adam described Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr Johnson Asiama’s inability to provide supporting documentation during a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearing as “mind-boggling.” He said the alleged losses were not included in BoG’s published 2024 financial statements. “The fact that such losses, if they really occurred, were not reported in the 2024 published financial statement of BoG but…
Former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Publishing Company Limited David Asante has outlined what he describes as unprecedented investment and growth at the company under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, insisting that the current administration has no basis to claim credit for the transformation. Mr Asante said that between 2017 and 2024, the company underwent a comprehensive facelift, including the acquisition of modern printing equipment and the establishment of new production systems. “In the over 60 years of existence of Ghana Publishing Company Limited, no government has invested as heavily in machinery acquisition and expansion as the NPP…
Customs officials at the Takoradi Port have intercepted a massive consignment of suspected illicit drugs concealed in two 40-foot containers, following an intelligence-led operation at the Atlantic Terminal Services Limited. The operation began after frontline officers detected unusual packaging patterns during routine checks. Their findings triggered an immediate alert to management. Acting swiftly, the Sector Commander for Takoradi, Walter Blankson, ordered the containers to be placed under tight surveillance to prevent interference. The containers were later fully unstuffed. The inspection was further reinforced by representatives from the Narcotics Control Commission, National Security, the National Intelligence Bureau, the Food and Drugs…

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), its Komenda Fire Station had a distress call around 7:25pm about the fatal accident. The Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) is calling for an independent forensic audit of the Gold-for-Reserves Programme following the Bank of Ghana’s disclosure that it can no longer absorb the losses associated with the initiative. The group said the development raises serious questions about transparency and accountability in economic governance. In its January 12 statement, CDM criticised what it described as conflicting narratives from government-aligned institutions, including GoldBod, which had previously insisted that the programme was profitable. It said official data now contradicts those claims and confirms substantial losses. “Allegations of losses running into hundreds of millions of dollars remain…
The Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) has accused government authorities of sustained opaqueness in the management of the Gold-for-Reserves (G4R) Programme following the Bank of Ghana’s admission that it has incurred losses under the initiative. The group said the development confirms long-standing concerns about secrecy and weak oversight. In a statement issued on Monday, January 12, CDM said the programme was implemented without a clearly disclosed legal, financial, or operational framework, making it difficult for Parliament and the public to properly assess its performance. “Since its inception, the G4R Programme has been surrounded by contradictions and unanswered questions,” CDM stated,…
During a campaign tour of Adenta Constituency on Sunday, January 11, New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong alleged that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia did not support the party’s parliamentary candidates in Adenta. According to Ken Agyapong, the NPP lost the Adenta seat because Dr Bawumia reportedly refused to campaign for Akosua Manu, citing her opponent, Mohammed Ramadan of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as a relative by marriage. He also described Adenta as a “traditional NPP seat”. However, available records and visual evidence contradict these claims. Data from past elections indicate that Adenta has not been…

Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Karaga Constituency have dramatically appealed to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to intervene and persuade their Member of Parliament, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, to seek re-election, despite his stated intention not to contest again. The appeal came after the delegates formally endorsed Dr Bawumia, during which they knelt before him as a sign of respect and urgency, asking him to prevail upon the MP to reconsider his decision. According to the delegates, Dr Amin Adam had earlier indicated his desire to serve only two terms in Parliament. However, they argued…
