A viral outbreak at a New Jersey long-term medical care centre has killed six children and left a dozen more infected. State officials confirmed a total of 18 cases of adenovirus among paediatric patients at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation on Tuesday. Adenoviruses typically cause “mild illness” but the children affected are “medically fragile”, officials say. The state investigation is ongoing. The centre is now closed to new patients. The children involved have “severely compromised immune systems” rendering them more susceptible to the virus, the health department said. “The combination of a worse strain of adenovirus together with…

Including its access roads, the bridge spans 55km (34 miles) and connects Hong Kong to Macau and the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai. Mr Xi attended the opening ceremony of the bridge, which took place in Zhuhai, along with the leaders of Hong Kong and Macau. Limited bus services…

The Spokesperson of the John Mahama Campaign Team, James Agyenim Boateng, says the violence that ensued at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is an “underlying frustration” of Ghanaians caused by the government. In a statement issued on Monday’s destruction of property by demonstrating students, Mr Agyenim Boateng noted that it is a reflection of the “intolerance” and “impunity” that have characterized the Akufo-Addo-led government. “The events at KNUST show a deeper underlying frustration of the pent-up feelings of not just students but also the larger Ghanaian public,” he stated. “It is a reflection of the intolerance…
The killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi was planned days in advance, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has told MPs from his ruling party. He said Turkey had strong evidence Khashoggi was killed in a premeditated and “savage” murder at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October. He also called for the suspects to be tried in Istanbul. He demanded Saudi Arabia provide answers about where Khashoggi’s body was, and who ordered the operation. The Saudi kingdom has provided conflicting accounts of what happened to the Washington Post contributor. After weeks of maintaining he was still alive, the authorities now…

Joy Bonfield-Colombara, 29, from south-east London, said she was struggling to pay her £9,500-a-year course fees at the prestigious Royal College of Art. But just as she was considering dropping out, she received an email from a friend of the US rapper who wanted to buy him a birthday present. Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui says he is going to “fight” to turn around the club’s faltering form but could not say whether he would still be in a job for the trip to Barcelona on Sunday.
