Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has narrated the circumstances that led to his detention by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) earlier on Wednesday evening. He told Accra-based TV3 that he had only gone to the OSP to honour his invitation for interrogation. He, then, said while he was parking, police man approached him about his mission there why he was allowed to park in the first place. In his bewilderment at the question, a soldier standing by seemed to have supported the police officer. He said the soldier then said, “I was stupid and I also told him…

Staff at a Virginia liquor store got a shock on Saturday when they came into work to find the store had been broken into by a very intoxicated raccoon. The “masked bandit” was found passed out in the bathroom between the toilet and bin having helped itself to some bottom shelf spirits. Animal control officer Samantha Martin transported the “suspect” for questioning at Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter but not before it had a chance to sober up. After a few hours of sleep and zero signs of injury (other than maybe a hangover), the animal was safely released…
Climate change continues to pose a significant threat to Ghana’s environment, economy and rural livelihoods. Among the most affected are the forest reserves, many of which have suffered decades of degradation from unstainable farming, logging and land-use pressures. Yet within these challenges lies the opportunity to restore the degraded forests where individuals are restoring forests through community-driven approaches that also improves livelihoods. The Modified Taungya System (MTS) comes off as one of Ghana’s most promising and cost-effective pathways to achieve both climate mitigation and poverty alleviation. Although forests and agriculture are addressed separately in global policy discussions, Ghana’s experience tells…

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has expressed outrage over the recent upward adjustment of utility tariffs by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC). On Tuesday, December 2, the PURC announced an upward adjustment of 9.86 percent for electricity and 15.92 percent for water effective January, 2026. In a statement issued on Wednesday, however, the TUC pointed out that such a “New Year’s gift” demonstrates government’s insensitivity to the daily struggles of workers. “In 2025, the government granted a wage increase of 10% and increased electricity tariffs cumulatively by more than 18%,” TUC statement signed by Secretary General Joshua Ansah noted.…

The search for the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 will resume on 30 December, over a decade after the aircraft with 239 people on board vanished, Malaysian authorities have said. This fresh search, which will run for 55 days, had begun in March but was suspended shortly after because of poor weather conditions. “The latest development underscores the [Malaysia’s] commitment to providing closure to the families affected by this tragedy,” the transport ministry said Wednesday, according to local media. Flight MH370, a Boeing 777, disappeared in 2014 while travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and sparked the largest search…
