Former President John Dramani Mahama has taken his campaign to Parliament, meeting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members. He commended the leadership and members of the Minority for their sterling performance in holding the government to task. Nigeria’s main opposition presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has boycotted an event to commit candidates to promote peace during what is expected to be tightly contested elections next year. The peace pledge was signed by President Muhammadu Buhari. It is not clear why Atiku Abubakar and his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), failed to sign the accord brokered by National Peace Committee, which is headed by former President Abdulsalami Abubakar. The pact specifically mandates candidates to publicly speak against religious, ethnic and electoral violence. Former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has left Olympiakos, just three months after rejoining the Greek club. The 35-year-old’s contract has been terminated by “mutual agreement”. Toure, who was a free agent in the summer after leaving City, chose to join Olympiakos in September, where he spent the 2005-06 season. The first batch of successful applicants into the Ghana Police Service has been directed to report at the police headquarters on Friday for appointment letters. One thousand applicants who went through medical screening and vetting were deemed successful. “The first batch of 1,000 applicants are likely to begin their training from Friday 21st December,” the police said in a news release on Tuesday. “The remaining qualified applicants who have not received any email will be notified in due course.” Thousands of applicants went through the medical screening in June/July. An extraordinary meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 9 to decide which country hosts the 32nd edition of the tournament.
