Pressure group Strategic Thinkers Network-Africa (STRANEK) has filed a writ at the court against the National Identification Authority (NIA) for not accepting the voters’ ID as one of the documents of proof for the national registration exercise. The NIA – as per the National Identification Amendment Law, 2017 or Act 950 – requires a Ghanaian passport, a birth certificate or two Ghanaian witnesses for the registration of citizens for the new cards, to be known as Ghana Cards. The interim management committee (IMC) will be chaired by the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, Dr Kofi Amoah. Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has formally petitioned the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo, to launch “full-scale” investigations into the activities of Kwesi Nyantakyi, who until recently was the President of the Ghana Football Association. Former President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday posted a short video on Twitter subtly taking a swipe at Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over the latter’s criticism some time back on the domestic currency’s depreciation against the US dollars. Some executives of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) are not happy with a “blanket” directive from the Speaker of Parliament to criminalise health professionals who turn patients away as a result of unavailability of beds. Morocco has once again lost a bid to host the FIFA World Cup.
