The 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia has reached its knock-out stage with the first of eight matches scheduled to be played on Saturday. It will be an encounter between Group C winners France and Group D runners-up Argentina. That match will be played at the Kazan Arena in Kazan. The two sides have had contrasting runs in this year’s tournament with the 1998 champions not having lost any match so far. The Argentines, on the other hand, have picked every result to have in the sport – draw, win and loss. La Albiceleste with Lionel Messi as captain drew…
On Thursday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo released the eighteenth annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. The report assesses the efforts of governments around the world to fight human trafficking, including in the United States. This year’s TIP Report notes the Government of Ghana’s increased efforts to combat human trafficking in 2017, including implementing a national anti-trafficking plan, prosecuting and convicting an increased number of labor and sex traffickers, and increasing cooperation across anti-trafficking government agencies. Additionally, Ghana adopted procedures to identify and refer trafficking victims to necessary services and supported a range of anti-trafficking awareness raising activities. Although…
Ed Sheeran is being sued for $100m (£76.4m) for allegedly copying parts of Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On. It’s alleged the singer ripped off sections of the 1973 classic for his number one hit Thinking Out Loud. Legal documents in the US allege it copies “the melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bass line, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping”. Ed has already faced legal action over the same track – and has always denied the allegations. This new claim has been filed by a company called Structured Asset Sales – which owns part of the copyright of Gaye’s song. https://youtu.be/lp-EO5I60KA…

The Ghana Ports and Harbor Authority (GPHA) has reprimanded a security officer, who allegedly accepted an unofficial gift while on duty at the Tema Port after a video of the incident was published on Klarity.org, an online platform collaborating with the Tiger Eye Foundation. “We are positive about the professional management and response from GPHA for standing up against misconduct,” said Anas Aremeyaw Anas of Tiger Eye Foundation. “Officials who take action and enforce the codes of ethics of public institutions should be applauded.” In June, 2017, a port security official was caught on camera allegedly accepting what he called…

England will face Colombia in the last 16 of the World Cup after a spectacular strike by Adnan Januzaj ensured Belgium finished top of Group G. Gareth Southgate made eight changes from England’s win against Panama, while opposite number Roberto Martinez made nine alterations – proving victory was not exactly the top priority as the tournament moves towards the knockout phase. That was illustrated by a largely mediocre, lifeless encounter in Kaliningrad that was settled by Januzaj’s goal six minutes after the break, the former Manchester United attacker cutting inside before curling a left-foot finish high past Jordan Pickford. England…
