Morocco are the first side to exit the 2018 FIFA World Cup after losing 0-1 to Portugal in their second Group B encounter. A Cristiano Ronaldo 4th minute header separated the two sides. The result puts Portugal in pole position of playing in the knock-out round with captain Cristiano Ronaldo extending his goal tally to four after just two games. The Atlas Lions, who lost 0-1 to Iran in their first game, lie bottom of the group without a point. Their next game, which will be against 2010 champions Spain will not count in their favour as even a win…
One of the accused standing trial in the murder of former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, Daniel Asiedu, has told an Accra District Court that he was hired by some persons in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to commit the crime. He said his “contractors” told him to rather say the National Democratic Congress (NDC) contracted him when asked about the crime. He made the confession in court on Wednesday. He told the court, presided over by judge Arit Nsemoh, that he was told to execute the plot after which he would be given…
A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has told TV3 that 19 factories have been constructed and commissioned by the Nana Akufo-Addo-led government so far. John Ampontuah Kumah, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP), said: “The 19th factory was commissioned last week”. He made this known on the television station’s newspaper review programme on morning show New Day on Wednesday. “It is not about noise-making,” Mr Kumah asserted. But he stopped short of listing the factories that have been constructed when asked by host Bright Nana Amfoh, directing all who…
Artiste manager Lawrence Asiamah Hanson known in showbiz as Bulldog has advised artistes to be active on social media as that can help push their brand. Speaking to 3FM on Easy Stream Tuesday, Bulldog said artistes who rely solely on their music to further cement their names in the industry are likely to fade out early. “In this era, music alone will not work,” he advised. “There are a lot of things you need to do. You need to put your life out there; may be you are in the studio or you are driving, get such activities on social…
Canada’s parliament has passed a law legalising the recreational use of marijuana nationwide. The Cannabis Act passed its final hurdle on Tuesday in a 52-29 vote in the Senate. The bill controls and regulates how the drug can be grown, distributed, and sold. Canadians will be able to buy and consume cannabis legally as early as this September. The country is the second worldwide to legalise the drug’s recreational use. Uruguay became the first country to legalise the sale of cannabis for recreational use in December 2013, while a number of US states have also voted to permit it. Cannabis…
Member of Parliament for Ho West Constituency Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah has denied writing to the Speaker of Parliament to resign. He says he had only told his “colleagues” that he would leave the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if the right things were not done as regards the upcoming constituency elections. The issue, he narrated on 3FM’s morning show, Sunrise, had to do with a message on social media circulated by his constituency’s executives about the suspension of Saturday’s elections. That is what engendered his blurting out that he would resign if some grassroots members were not given a fair chance…
The Judicial Press Corps of Ghana has expressed disgust over a decision by an Accra District Magistrate Court Judge, Efua Sackey, to seize mobile phones of some journalists, who were in the court to cover the proceedings of the case involving the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Obengfo Hospital on Tuesday. The Corps said “even cover court proceedings at the Supreme Court” but the judges there do not prohibit journalists from covering the proceedings, let alone seizing their mobile phones. Mobile phones of journalists accredited to cover the case involving Dr Dominic Obeng-Andoh were seized on the orders of magistrate…
https://twitter.com/TyCSports/status/1009123293947887616 There were jubilant scenes among Senegal fans on Tuesday after their side secured a 2-1 victory over Poland in their World Cup opener, in the process becoming the first African team to win at this year’s tournament in Russia. But while supporters could have been forgiven for celebrating in the stands with reckless abandon, videos have instead been going viral showing fans methodically cleaning up after themselves in the emptying stadium. One clip shared by the Argentinian TV channel TyC Sports showed fans scouring the stands for rubbish and assembling it in a single pile. It has been viewed…
Russia moved to the brink of qualifying for the last 16 of the World Cup after the host nation beat Mohamed Salah’s Egypt in St Petersburg. Russia, who beat Saudi Arabia 5-0 in their opening game, took the lead thanks to a bizarre 47th-minute own goal from Ahmed Fathi, who diverted Roman Zobnin’s shot into his own net. Denis Cheryshev doubled Russia’s advantage after he finished from Mario Fernandes’ pull-back, before Artem Dzyuba sealed the victory with a fine individual goal. Liverpool forward Salah, playing for the first time since sustaining a shoulder injury in the Champions League final, converted…
The US has pulled out of the United Nations Human Rights Council, calling it a “cesspool of political bias”. The “hypocritical and self-serving” body “makes a mockery of human rights”, said US envoy to the UN Nikki Haley. Formed in 2006, the Geneva-based council has been criticised for allowing countries with questionable human rights records to be members. But activists said the US move could hurt efforts to monitor and address human rights abuses around the world. Ms Haley announced her country’s intention to quit the council at a joint news conference with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who called…
