The Minority Caucus has warned that the proposed Security and Intelligence Agencies Bill, 2025 could open the door to politicisation and weaken financial transparency within Ghana’s intelligence framework. It argued that the structure of Regional and District Security Councils, chaired by Regional Ministers and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), creates risks during politically sensitive periods. “During sensitive periods, especially elections, such structures can be misused to suppress lawful political activity,” the Caucus cautioned, noting the absence of cross-party representation requirements. The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has successfully evacuated three Ghanaian traders who were injured in Saturday’s terrorist attack in Titao, Burkina Faso. The mission was conducted on Tuesday, February 17 via a Ghana Air Force flight. “The evacuation forms part of the government’s coordinated humanitarian and security efforts,” a press release on Wednesday, February 18 explained. The injured have since been admitted to the 37 Military Hospital “for further medical assessment and treatment”. GAF extended condolences to the bereaved families of the victims of the deadly attack, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
