The Police administration has dismissed the former Director General in-charge of Human Resources at the Ghana Police Service, COP Patrick Timbilla for his alleged involvement in the recruitment scandal that rocked the service in 2015. He was placed under house arrest and later interdicted two years ago for his alleged role in the scam. The special taskforce which was set up to investigate the matter is said to have seen text message evidence and other correspondence between him and the victims. The latest Oxford Business School report has revealed that only 34 percent of rice consumed in the country is produced locally, resulting in the importation of 680,000 tonnes annually. Even though the country’s domestic production has increased by 12 percent over the 2010-15 period, states the report, domestic consumption increased by double that rate over the same time frame. The Corruption Perception Index (CPI) has dropped Ghana’s ranking in Africa from 6th position in 2015 to 9th after scoring 47 points out of 100 in 2016. Globally, the country placed 70 out of 176 countries included in the 2016 index.
