The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has categorically denied rumours that there is plastic rice on the Ghanaian market. A former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Ansah Asare, is pushing for a retrial of  the Supreme Court’s judgment on writing of ‘entrance exams’ at the Ghana School of Law. The Supreme Court on Thursday, June 22, 2017, ruled that the writing of entrance exams and the subsequent interviewing as pre-qualification into the Ghana School of Law be abolished from 2018. Some forty young Ghanaian leaders are currently representing the country in the United States of America as part of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). The forty made up of 20 males and females were selected from more than 4,000 applicants throughout the country. The high-achieving cohort of Mandela Washington Fellows includes entrepreneurs, public servants and civil society members, all of whom are between the ages of 25 and 35. The Fellows represent all ten regions of Ghana. The Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) has denied allegations made by the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) that oil revenues were understated in 2016, arguing that, monitoring mechanisms in place are strong enough to prevent revenue leakage. Four Arab states have sent Qatar a list of 13 demands it must meet if it wants them to lift their sanctions. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain are asking the Gulf state to shut down its broadcaster, Al Jazeera. The Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) has denied media reports that it is losing over GHC 7m by selling off-spec (substandard) products at a cheaper rate which would cost the nation. The Supreme Court has described as unconstitutional the admission procedure used by the Ghana School of Law. The procedure requires applicants to take an entrance exam, and subsequently interviewed before gaining admission. According to the court the requirement is contrary to L.I. 1296. All Kenyan schoolgirls are to get free sanitary pads, the government has said. It is hoped the move will improve access to education in a country where many cannot afford sanitary products like pads and tampons. According to the UN’s education agency, one in 10 girls in sub-Saharan Africa misses school during their period.
