Vice chairman of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee, Kwame Jantuah has unequivocally suggested that claims by the US Embassy in Ghana that the Electricity Company of Ghana has not billed their facilities for years are false. He said he has evidence to show that since 2015 the ECG has been billing the over 160 facilities of the Embassy with the latest being in March, 2017. A middle-aged woman was Saturday killed by unknown assailants at Alavanyo in the Volta Region. Madam Elizabeth Anku’s death is being linked to the about a century-long protracted land dispute between indigenes there and those from neigbouring town, Nkonya. The Australian High Commission has announced that its Commonwealth Games Gala Dinner, which welcomed the Queen’s Baton to Ghana on 19 March 2017, successfully raised over GH¢50,000 for the Ghana Olympic Committee and the Azumah Nelson Foundation. Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has assured the Muslim Community that the Government would organise an incident-free hajj this year by improving on what the previous government had done. Latest economic and financial data released by the Central Bank puts the country’s debt stock at GHS127 billion at the end of March this year. After it met on Friday to review the health of the economy, the data showed that debt has increased from around GHS122 in December 2016 to GHS127 billion. This represents an increase of GHS5 billion in the debt stock in three months but sources close to government indicate the increase was not as a result of fresh borrowings.
