The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has appealed to the government for an urgent financial support and legal assistance to deal with 50,602,874.43 judgment debt and 49 court cases. According to the mayor of Kumasi, Osei Assibey Antwi, the situation is distracting the Assembly from effectively carrying out its mandate and damaging its image. Gunmen have shot and killed a 15-year-old boy at Alavanyo in the Volta Region on Thursday evening. Another boy sustained gunshot wounds in the fatal attack in the precarious town today. According to residents, the attackers stormed the town in the afternoon and opened fire on the children. This adds to four the number of persons that have been shot dead in renewed clashes between the people of Nkonya and Alavanyo in the region in less than a month. Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe is not asleep when he closes his eyes for long periods during meetings but is resting his eyes, his spokesman says. “The president cannot suffer bright lights,” George Charamba was quoted as saying by the state-run Herald newspaper. A sub-chief at Sewfi-Anhwiaso in the Western Region, and four others have been arrested for allegedly murdering a 68-year-old retired teacher in his farm.
