Human rights group, Amnesty International is calling for a full scale investigation into the abuse of a worker at fast food joint Marwako which occurred over the weekend. A supervisor at the restaurant Jihad Thaabn who happens to be the brother-in-law of the owner of Marwako Restaurant, is reported to have dipped the face of a worker, Evelyn Boakye into blended pepper for working slowly. Labour economist at the University of Ghana, Dr. Baah Boateng has called on government to take a firm decision and strictly enforce compliance of the minimum wage. The country’s minimum wage currently stands at GHc8.80 which translates into a minimum monthly salary of GHc264, but many companies are paying their employees below the nationally agreed pay. The Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency, Eugene Boakye Antwi has called for an immediate investigations into the recent disturbances involving some police personnel and students of the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI). About 14 people were injured when students of the KTI who were returning from the Kumasi Sports Stadium where they participated in an inter-collages athletic competition clashed with some police officers on January 14, 2017. Mental and epileptic patients in the Northern Region requiring medical care have shunned health facilities due to the absence of psychotropic medicines. Epilepsy, per statistics from the Ghana Health Service, accounts for about 65 per cent of health cases reported at the various health facilities in the region. According to the Northern Regional Mental Health Authority health facilities in the region have not received any consignment of psychotropic drugs and anti epileptic medicines for the treatment of epileptic and mentally ill patients. Ghana Rugby successfully completed two Rugby First Aid courses for 16 coaches and development officers at the Ghana Rugby Secretariat in Osu, Accra on Sunday, 5th March 2017.
