The 10% pay cut announced by former President John Mahama in his 2014, State of the Nation Address to parliament for him and his ministers has summed up to a total of GHC 2.5million at the end of December 2016. Teaching and learning at the Benkum Senior High School at Larteh in the Eastern Region was Monday suspended following Sunday evening’s rainstorm that left more than 250 students without accommodation. Both the boys and girls dormitories had their roof ripped off, with the boys dormitory constructed by the GETFund five years ago, being the hardest hit. The school’s library and portion of the teachers’ bungalow were also affected by the rainstorm. Eleven people sustained several injuries while many others were displaced as rainstorm swept through Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region last Friday. Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation for Dormaa Central, Ebenezer Yeboah, who confirmed the incident told 3FM “So many houses have been ripped off. I have counted 92 buildings, for now, with four collapsed. “Those buildings with half sheet ripped off are not among this figure. We are still recording data on the situation,” he added. Government is to begin the construction of underground drains at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra as one of the key measures prevent the recurrent flooding in and around the area. FIFA president Gianni Infantino has denied suggestions that his tour of several African countries is part of a grand plan to influence support for Dr Ahmad of Madagascar in his bid to unseat sitting CAF president Isaa Hayatou. Authorities of the Ankaful Leprosy and General Hospital are appealing to the government, individuals and organizations for urgent support to address some serious challenges militating against quality health care delivery at the facility. A psychologist who has done extensive research on suicide among young persons in Ghana,  Dr. Joseph Osarfo, has  warned society against trivializing issues that young people consider as problems. “People tend to trivialize the reasons for which somebody wants to die. Business Development Minister, Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, has urged Canadian businesses in the country to expand their scope of investments beyond mining to other critical sectors of the economy, especially in Agri-business and tourism.
