Initial investigations by the Board of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has confirmed the Hospital paid more than GHC100,000 as Christmas bonuses to the staff and management members of the Hospital. Chairman of the Board, Prof Antony Mawuli Sallar said preliminary investigations have revealed authorities at the Hospital paid staff each staff member GHC100 and management staff a total of GHC17,000 as Christmas bonuses for 2016. Gambians have started stocking up food following the declaration of a 90-day state of emergency in that country by the outgoing president, Yahya Jammeh. Journalism trainer, Haddija Jawara told TV3 Tuesday “some people were going to the market to stock up their food supplies,” indicating the streets of the capital are empty. “Everywhere is empty since the declaration of the state of emergency. Parliaments vetting committee would be vetting President Akufo Addo’s nominees on Saturday as part of efforts to expedite the process so the minister designates can get to work as quickly as possible. Outgoing Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has declared a 90-day state of emergency a day before his official mandate ends, state TV reports. Regional leaders have been unsuccessfully trying to persuade him to hand over power to Adama Barrow, who won December’s elections.
